We’re excited to announce the release of the feature film, The Kitchenistas, with its premiere on KPBS Thursday, March 4th at 9PM!
What Join Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center, filmmakers Mary Ann Beyster and David Romero, along with the Kitchenistas and Special Guests for a 2 Day "Watch Party" and live CELEBRATION to celebrate the release of the film. This is a special opportunity to hear behind-the-scenes --- the making of and the being in the film!
About the Film This film is about women advocating for healthy food traditions to change communities and transform lives. The feature film follows the 16th Generation through the 8-week Cooking for Salud® course and focuses on the personal journeys of several early-generation Kitchenistas from mid-2019 through 2020.This feature film is a stand-alone, expansion of the award-winning short film, The Kitchenistas of National City, that aired on PBS stations for four years across the country starting in 2016. Now after 18 graduating classes, more than 275 Kitchenistas stay the course to overcome systemic barriers in bringing high-quality food solutions into their homes, schools, and city.
